The Downtown Islamic Center was established in 1976 to provide a space for Muslims in the loop area to attend Friday prayers. As our community has grown and established roots in the downtown area, so have we. Our Masjid and community center offers our patrons educational classes, programs for children ranging from toddlers on up, and daily prayers. During Friday prayers we have over 500 patrons attend services. Our mission is to efficiently serve not only our Muslim community but the downtown community at large. We have built strong interfaith relationships with other religious institutions in the area as well as launched programs and volunteer efforts with the refugee community. Our cornerstone is built on education and community service.  Last updated 2 years ago

★★★★★  This is a very clean mosque, in the heart of downtown. Most times it is locked (specially on the weekend) unless there is something going on. Never attended a Jumu'ah here, but I have prayed random salahs. It is good to find it here for the downtown musallis.

★★★★★  A very diverse and active masjid in the heart of downtown, a perfect location for tourists and people who work in the Loop. Khutbahs are done by a rotation of some of the best khateebs in Chicago. After jumma, there is an inexpensive but delicious lunch that serves as a great opportunity to meet some of the over 100 people who stay to eat. One note of caution: Most of the people that pray at DIC are people who work downtown but then leave by Maghrib time - Isha and Fajr are not as well attended as zuhr and asr.

Please note this is not a masjed, it's an Islamic center. They don't pray Fajr there and neither do they have a set time for Isha. I spoke to someone from management with regards to that and they said its a center, they're open from 11 am- 7 pm. I advised them they should pray the five daily prayers there to get the reward of the masjed but he said you need someone that is willing to take that responsibility (I'm sure their are many who would) because its in downtown and they have to worry about various unwanted people entering the building such as crackheads. It's too bad I didn't get the reward of praying in a masjed.
FYI the building entrance is right next to foot locker.

If nobody is sitting at the door simply ring the bell at the side or knock a brother should be there during normal hours.

★★★★  I once we had to pray asar, while in downtown. The door was locked but we noticed that even though the doors were locked they move when pulled so all you have to do is pull the doors enough to "pop/misalign" the lock. The uncle and another brother were upstairs working. We went inside said salam and offered our prayers wiht no problems. I think they close the doors so random people won't enter the building.
