99 Beverley Hills Drive, Toronto, ON M3L
SUNNI Founded in the 1970s, TARIC acquired and built its present buildings in the early 1990s. Built on 2.2 acres on the northeast corner of Highways 400 and 401, the Islamic Centre is one of the largest in the city with a Muslim population of over 400,000.
During Eid prayers and holiday jum'a prayers, overflow crowds are accommodated on the lawn, attendance at Salat ul Jumma exceeds 2,000. A library is also in operation, and a limited selection of books can also be bought.
There is a summer picnic, 2-3 family dinner events, two popular International Food Bazaars and other events held regularly every year. The masjid has a full indoor gymansium (court) where basketball, badminton and tape-ball cricket is regularly played on weekend assigned hours. Added on June 16, 2005 |

★★★★☆ As a regular at TARIC, it is a great non-intrusive islamic center, if you are looking for trouble or help or a lecture on adab, it may not be for you, but if all you want is to come pray, it is a nice mind-your-own-business type place. Not too many Muslims live nearby, so it is kind of a commuter islamic center, where people are around only when events are taking place, which is pretty much on weekends only. It is run by a tight knit group of Guaynese and Trinidadian Muslims, you will not find any trouble-makers in the masjid administration. Although everyone is welcome in the congregation, which is mostly a good mix of Muslims from all over. Mostly Somali families, Arab working class bachelor types, few Bangladeshi activists, and alhamdulillah very few of the arrogant Desi type subarbanites or those pseudo salafist intolerables. Imam is a classic moulvi type, ceremonial, big eater, arrogant, and condescending. Good with the insiders, but unhelpful to stangers. I suppsoe in keeping with the times. Studied Arabic in some Muslim lands, and is always kissing up to Arab people and downright rude to Desi people who do not speak his adopted language. Which may not be a bad thing I suppose. Khutbas are often great, we have public persona Dr. Masri, eloqunt Imam Abdool Hameed, and Egyptian firebrand Shaykh 'oops, I forget his name' as regular khateebs. Clean and well run islamic center with several good family events held regularly year around. Posted on June 17, 2006 |

★★★★☆ Went here for Eid prayers this year. The mosque building itself is lovely. The location of the mosque is less so, as it backs onto a major highway and is surrounded by parking lots and strip malls. But you don't notice any of that once you are inside. Instead it has subtle modern "Islamic architecture" muted colors - very suited to getting into a prayerful state of mind. For Eid women prayed downstairs so I didn't see the main hall. Everything was very orderly and the mosque volunteers were very polite and friendly. Mosque volunteers were mostly Indo-Caribbean Muslims as was the khattab at my Eid session (there were 3 that day). This is the first GTA mosque where I have seen large numbers of West African Muslims. Everywhere else the African contribution has been East and North African (Somalis, Sudanese, Egyptians, etc.). I also saw a fair number of Southeast Asian Muslims (Malays, Indonesians, etc.). Posted on November 5, 2005 |

★★★★☆ this mosque can get very crowded for juma prayers, because its probably one of the most popular masjids there. Khutbahs given by Brother Munir are awesome. Women are often separated by a barrier in the main hall, but sometimes by just a low separation. Posted on October 10, 2005 |
