Also known as Masjid Al-Rahmah, The Islamic Society of Baltimore was established in 1969, where a handful of mainly immigrant Muslim families used to hold weekly meetings and Friday prayers at Johns Hopkins University. As the community grew there was a need for an established facility. In 1982, ISB purchased an 8-acre lot off Johnnycake Road in the western part of Baltimore County and built the Mosque (Masjid Al Rahmah). Several years later a housing complex was built next to the Masjid. Today, the compound also includes a fulltime school, a community hall, a kitchen, as well as a computer training facility. The ISB is in the process of developing a Community Learning Center on the existing premises, which will be designed and constructed to provide training, classrooms and laboratories to conduct educational programs. This will include computer technology, language classes and many other courses to enhance social and economic benefits to the community at large.
