SUNNI Masjid Bilal is run by the Islamic Society of Cumberland. The society is in the process of building a new mosque. The present facility accomodates about 80 worshippers and has space in the basement that is used for classes. The new Masjid will provide a prayer hall for 600 persons (400 men and 200 women), Islamic classes for 150 students, an Islamic library, funeral facilities and a center for religious events (Eid prayers, lectures, etc.). The cost of this construction project was estimated to be approx $3 million. InshaAllah, our goal is to raise this amount quickly so that we can have the new Masjid completed and operational within one year, if possible. To this end, the Society has raised just over one million dollars so far which will cover the cost of the first two of seven phases (Building Foundation & part of the Structure Envelope) of the project. Vigorous fundraising campaigns are being waged to ensure availability of sufficient funds to complete all of the construction phases without stoppage.
