SUNNI Also known as the Bilal Mosque, the Islamic Centre of Aachen is the fifth oldest mosque in Germany, built between 1964 and 1968 in Aachen on the grounds of the Technical University of Aachen. It is named after Bilal al-Habaschi. The prayer hall was originally designed to accommodate 150 to 180 persons, but after a renovation in 1979, it now accommodates up to 600 people (including 100 women in the gallery). The cost for the expansion of the mosque was mostly through membership fees, private donations from home and abroad (especially from Turkish workers) and donations from organizations.
