SUNNI Affiliated with the Muslim American Society (Imam W.D. Mohammed), Masjid Tauhid was first established in the early 1980's by African American Muslims as the Huntsville Islamic Center in a remodeled house. The original constitution allowed for equal representation for all Muslim ethnic groups on its Board of Directors. As the international community grew, the constitution was changed to a 'majority vote' system, leading to a Board dominated by one or two international ethnic groups, resulting in the establishment of Masjid Tauhid to address the needs of the African American Muslims, although the international community is welcomed. The local Imam is on the Huntsville Board of the Conference of Community and Justice and is a member of the Huntsville Interfaith Mission.
