SUNNI With its current facilities opened in 1985, the East London Mosque is, along with the London's Regent's Park Mosque, one of the busiest and oldest in the UK, with its roots extending back to the early 1900's. A new six-storey extension was completed in 2004, adding a library, créche, conference rooms, a gym and classrooms and increasing the capacity of the mosque to over 10,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest mosques in Western Europe. The mosque is also the home of the London East Academy, a private school for boys aged 11-16.
