SUNNI SALAFI The Qur'an and Sunnah Society of Canada (QSSC) is the Canadian affiliate of the Qur'an and Sunnah society of North America (QSS) based in the U.S. The QSS is distinguished by a methodology implemented by the righteous predecessors (as-Salaf as-Saalih) of this Muslim Ummah, the noble companions of the Prophet Muhammad (s) and those who followed them in excellence. Our Goal is to invite people to Islam and the Sunnah, help them understand it, practice it, and purify themselves by it, all in accordance with the blessed methodology of the blessed Salaf. ★★★★☆ This masjid is in a spacious basement of a plaza. It is quite clean, but, could arguably be kept cleaner than it is. It has a women's location, although no separate entrance for women from the outside as far as I'm aware (note that I'm not a female). Parking is sometimes difficult to find in the plaza, so, you may need to park on the side street if attending (where there is usually ample parking available, if you're willing to walk a bit).
The best thing about this masjid is that the khutbas are eloquently delivered both in English and Arabic. Every time I go to this masjid for Jum'ah prayers, I learn something new about Islam that I didn't know before, thanks to the wonderful khutbas that are delivered. It is difficult not to pay attention to the khutbas thanks to the quality khateebs that speak at this masjid. Constant reference to Qur'anic Ayahs and authentic hadiths (with references!) are made in the khutbas, which is wonderful. I urge other masjids to consider learning from this masjid on how to better deliver khutbas that are very useful and practicable for the local Muslim community, so that Muslims can get more from their Jum'ah experiences.
Due primarily to the high quality khutbas that are delivered in English, I frequently attend this masjid on Fridays. Posted on June 5, 2012 |

★★★★★ Always open and available for salat if you are in the area. Others can't comment Posted on July 12, 2011 |

★★★★★ First of all, they have a new website with very valuable information (MP3s) that people like ruhafsa can benefit from instead of bragging that she is not a Salafi. Anyway, Brother r. Gonzales said enough about QSSC. The new website is www.qssc.org and the email is: admin@qssc.org.
Anyway, for someone coming from USA, you better type in the address and postal code in google earth or mapit.ca and Insha'Allah you will reach safe. Also, if you consider yourself not Salafi, probably you should visit the center and ask about the meaning of Salafi and what is the Salafi Manhaj, probably it will make more sense for a non-Salafi Muslim.
On the other hand, some contribution to the QSSC will help a lot in their project to buy a new place. You can find that on www.qssc.org/donations
May Allah Forgive all of us and guide us to the right path. Posted on January 6, 2008 |

NR the masjid is easy to find if you follow the directions given on the QSS website. there is also a big sign high above the entrance to aid finding it.
with the recent renovations the centre's gone through the moisture problem mentioned in ruhafsa's review has been dealt with. washrooms and a couple of other rooms have been added, and there are more changes to come, inshaa'allah. being that this masjid is fairly new, the fact that there will be certain issues that need to be resolved should be expected. these issues are being dealt with as opportunities present themselves.
as for the masjid's demographics, being that the pharmacy & lawrence area has a fairly sizeable number of muslims living and working in it, the jamaa'ah that frequents the masjid is made up of brothers and sisters who live and work in the area, so ruhafsa's depiction of the masjid being "one of those masajid frequented by brothers working in the area rather than a community mosque" isn't entirely accurate. and i don't know what not being an adherent to the salafi methodology would have anything to do with why you would come to this masjid or not... most of those who frequent the masjid are common everyday muslims who don't really ascribe themselves to any "movement" or "madhhab".
information on classes, lectures and other programs can usually be found on the QSS website. classes are usually held friday through sunday but are currently on hold due to ramadan.
(note: the no rating is due to my being affiliated with the masjid). Posted on October 28, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ This masjid is hard to find since it occupies basement space in a busy strip mall. It is located in the popular Lawrence Muslim/Arab store area. The masjid is very simply laid out and decorated. Basically one big room out of which some bathroom/wudu space, an office and a curtained off women's space has been created. The mosque is bright and clean but has a strong mildew smell. The odor really got to me as I kept imagining black mold behind the walls. There must be some kind of moisture problem - not surprising since it is a basement space. Insha'Allah they will do something to fix it, since breathing in mildew/mold cannot be too healthy. The mosque seems more like one of those masajid frequented by brothers working in the area rather than a community mosque. There is however, a fairly comfortable if walled-off (this is a salafi mosque) women's area. It is about a quarter of the mosque space and cordened off by floor to ceiling heavy opaque curtains. Communications to the brothers outside the curtained area are conveyed through children. The brothers do not trespass into the designated women's space. The sisters and brothers I encountered here were nice if very conservative. Because of the mildew odor and because I am not of the salafi minhaj, I would only visit this masjid again if I were in the area and I found nowhere else to pray. Posted on June 16, 2005 |
