The Islamic Center of Boulder was founded in the late 1970s by a group of students at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU Boulder). At one point in history attempts were made to open an Islamic University in Boulder County. Although those attempts were never actualized, the ICB has since been home to very influential Muslim scholars; including authors, researchers, and lectures. In 2011, the community was able to purchase a large church building which has been transformed into a nice-sized masjid with plenty of room for everyone.   Last updated 2 years ago

★★★★  This has been my masjid for the past five years. It is a very open and diverse community that is constantly changing due to the University. We have many reverts and lots of immigrants, and now we have many young adults who have grown up in this masjid. The new building is enormously huge and you can get lost in there. It has space for everyone in the main hall, and even a second hall for women who are shy or have small children. The nursery is nice and the cafeteria is downstairs with space blocked for men and women. Sunday school has been a real success and there is a very professional and large program running from 10am-2pm on Sundays. Please come visit us!

★★★★  The masjid has been recently renovated and there is now a dedicated and larger space for women to pray at any time, including jumuah prayer wal humdulillah.

★★★  This mosque is very small. It is permitted for women to pray here, but I wouldn't do so without my husband who would inform the brothers first. Usually I pray in the library where they have a sign that you can put outside the door letting the brothers know that you're inside. There is a speaker system in the library so that you can pray in Jammah.

NR  When I attempted to pray in this masjid, I was told there is no room for women to pray. Sometimes, a speaker system is wired to an apartment or house next door so women can listen, but, generally, they are not included in the Friday prayers. I suppose if you are a man, then this is an okay place to pray in Boulder.
