It was recognized that there is an urgent need for opening more Islamic Institutions in the Baltimore/Washington DC metro area, as the Muslim population here exceeds half a million people. High demand for Islamic knowledge made it necessary to establish an Institute of Higher Islamic Education, Darul Uloom, which started in October 2005, and is located in the Baltimore County area.
