| Sunni Rizvi Jamia Masjid: ★★★★ I don't understand the gripe these guys before me have about second jummahs and azhans, etc. I've seen some people hold a second prayer like after maghrib or something before. Although they do have a sign up that says not any sort of announcement may be made in the prayer hall. The facilities are good (not brand new, but good), its a renovated synagogue. Location is EXCELLENT - right by path trains, nice part of grove street, jersey city.
Yea, the entrance is narrow, its an old building, this is how they used to build. Most of the other buildings in the area are like this too (if you're familiar with nyc you know what i'm talking about).
Its not tribal pakistanis. I know one of the active Imams/teachers at the masjids is a young Pakistani-educated imam who is quite knowledgeable. They have few younger, American raised members who are very active. Mostly the mosque is urdu-speaking or punjabi pakistani people. Good group though. Friendly. They have (or used to have) friday night talk and dinner which was good. (Submitted on January 4, 2009) |
| Muslim Center of Middlesex County: ★★★★★ Spent a lot of time at this masjid. Facilities are solid. Men and women have separate entrances, bathrooms and stairs up to the prayer hall which is on the 2nd floor. I dont think they have an elevator yet. The upstairs is very nicely decorated (look up). Imam is good. In Ramadan it gets packed. Parking lot gets packed for jummah, come early. Close to rutgers. great place. (Submitted on January 4, 2009) |
| New Brunswick Islamic Center: ★★★★★ This is one of those beautiful little masjids who may not have a great outward looking facade or facility, but inward it is a strong, wonderful group. And I don't mean that as an empty compliment. Really, after seeing many other masjids, I often think back to New Brunswick and realize the greatness of this masjid. So, yes, the facilities could need some improvement. Let's get it right: It's clean and neat. The main issue is space, especially for sisters. Khatibs that come in for khutbah - great. I've heard some great khutbahs here. In Ramadan, back then at least, Qari Abdul Basit (not the famous Egyptian one) would bless us with his beautiful voice. Close to rutgers. Salam. | Pearland Musallah: ★★★★ Small place. Good group. Mostly made up of Pearland residents who live nearby. Sisters have a separate room and entrance. Brothers have a room and 2 more rooms for jummah (it gets packed). Location could be better, but it IS a musallah so not a permanent solution. They're in the process of building a new masjid which actually has a very good design. Administration here is friendly and is always looking for people to get more involved with the community. | Dallas Masjid of Al-Islam: ★★★★★ Nice masjid. The masjid is one of those small community-oriented masjids with a friendly feel. People are friendly and pretty diverse. There is no barrier between the men and women's section. Women simply sit in the back, as is the sunnah. Imam is knowledgeable and gives good khutbahs. Parking is adequate. location is in a poor neighborhood. (Submitted on January 3, 2009) |
| Islamic Association of North Texas: ★★★★★ Great masjid, great community. It seems to be "the masjid" of dallas. The Imam is Dr. Kavakci, a knowledgeable scholar of Islam. He is friendly and gives good talks. Building is nice and big. The community is one of the most diverse I've seen - a mix of many people. Very active and seems to be well organized.
