| Masjid Al-Fajr: ★★★★ I've been to this masjid for 8 years. I've seen this masjid grow and improve especially for the full-time Islamic school, from being just an entity at the masjid's basement into one that has its own building. This is one of the pioneer masajids that has spawned others in Indianapolis to cater for the convenience of the jama'ah especially for Jumu'ah. The diversity of the demographics make you feel more welcomed. There are fiqh and Qur'an memorization classes conducted on-site to name a few as well as the regular Sunday school. As a self-supporting and fledgling masjid compared to the ones in Detroit or Washington DC, if you will the expression, there are teething problems and catering to the whims of every Tom, Dick or Harry may prove quite difficult. Since the post made on February 20, 2006 the masjid now has a larger space for sisters as well as overflow areas for both brothers and sisters. The masjid committee constantly monitors the khutbah by having a resident scholar from Algeria training khateebs and checking the contents.
Despite the many shortcomings I still go to this masjid just because of the serene feeling I when I am there. It's very hard to explain in words, but that's the best I can do. (Submitted on June 9, 2008) |
