| Masjid an-Noor: ★★★ The womens' entrance is located behind the building, there is another mens' entrance and then a womens' entrance furthest from the gas station that it is located beside. The womens' wudu and prayer area are clean. The women's prayer area is on the same floor as the men's, in a separate room with windows facing into the men's space. (Submitted on April 14, 2013) |
| Madina Masjid: ★ Despite the extensive renovations that have been done to the main men's prayer area and the sidewalk outside the carpet in the women's prayer area has yet to be replaced, and badly needs to be. The carpet is visibly dirty and permanently soiled. The women's restroom and wudu area regularly hold bad smells due to lack of regular cleaning. Despite this area of the city being heavily populated by Muslims, women sparsely attend juma at this mosque. In my experience, the small women's prayer space is only close to full on Eid-al-Fitr. | Masjid Omar Bin Al Khattab: ★★★ This is a predominantly Somali mosque. The women's section for the moqsue is half of the basement, separated by a curtain. The wudu area and restroom for both men and women are located in the basement. The other half of the basement serves to accommodate the overflow of men from upstairs for jum'a prayers. Men and women put their shoes together on the same shoe rack, which can make leaving after prayer time awkward for women who feel obliged to wait for the men not only while they are leaving the basement but also while they chat by the shoe racks. It would be easier to have separate shoe racks for women closer to the door so they may bypass the men and leave without mixing with them or having to wait longer for them. I would not suggest attending this jum'a service if you are a woman on a tight time schedule. (Submitted on April 14, 2013) |
