| Bayview Islamic Unity Center: ★★★★ I came here for Jumah today for the first time and found it pretty easily.
I believe khutba is in Urdu, but unfortunately missed the khutba as I came late.
Khutba starts 1pm and prayer at 1:45pm.
I LOVE this masjid as it's one of the few that do group dhikr afterwards and in particular give salaams to the Prophet salAllahu alaih.
It was decorated very nicely for the Milad-un-Nabi salAllahu alaih.
The masjid has many berelwis and qadiris and there's a lot of emphasis on muhabba for the Prophet salAllahu alaih.
Parking is easy and the masjid isnt packed which makes for easy in and out.
I think there's a sisters section behind a purdah.
In terms of community / youth etc. events I don't know what they have...I just love the fact that they have a salaam after Jumah. Only other place that does that is MCC East Bay in Pleasanton.
FYI: Not exactly the safest neighborhood as it's in the Bay View Hunter's Point...not a place you want to be at at night, but it's safe during the day. Not a place for kids/families. (Submitted on February 22, 2013) |
| Islamic Center of Hayward: ★★★★ The youth halaqa here has opened up to college students and adults. MashAllah this is by far the BEST ongoing and consistent halaqa I have ever seen. They get on average about 200 youth every Friday night. They get a host of speakers including Imam Zaid and SH. Hamza. Their website is www.haywardhalaqah.com. It has not been updated recently, but their halaqah is still going strong every Friday night. You can contact Farhad for more info at fbajawory@gmail.com and Ahmed at ahmadtarin@aol.com
It's also for brothers and sisters and they get about half brothers, half sisters....definitely worth checking out if you're in town. (Submitted on July 7, 2008) |
| San Ramon Valley Islamic Center (SRVIC): ★★★★ - The masjid is extremely clean and well kept.
-The Friday khateebs are from a diverse speaker pool
- The Islamic School on Sunday is very organized
- The only major negative for this masjid is the lack of adult classes.
- A major positive is that the youth are very active and are starting to take a role in the masjid board. (Submitted on August 11, 2006) |
| Zaytuna College: ★★★★★ This is definitely the spot to bring your Non Muslim coworkers and friends. Introduce them to Brother Usama Canon.
This is truly an inspiring institute with some of the most motivating and influential scholars in the western world mashAllah.
I personally would not classify Zaytuna as a "sufi" masjid. It's a very traditional Islamic sunni learning institute and one only needs to take a few fiqh classes there to see how traditionally sunni this institute is. (Submitted on August 11, 2006) |
