Islamic Society of Santa Barbara: ★ not even sure if this is a mosque or musallah or even in use. its the 1st floor of a warehouse in some industrial area. Very hard to find. No contact info or times on the door which was locked. I called the number on this website - no answer. Voicemail gave another number which was unsuccessful. Anyway turns out they read Jummah at some community center a mile away. (Submitted on November 25, 2012)
Masjid Malcolm Shabazz: ★★ not sure about this masjid. Sure it has a nice Islamic dome at the top, but inside its another store No wudhu area, simply a regular basin where you attempt to make wudhu- arms could barely fit, let alone fee and water spilling all over. brother at front desk looked surprised when we asked if we could pay Asr there, then prompted to search my bag and have me leave it at the entrance. Mosque prayer area consists of a large room with wooden floors and musallah's placed in 2 or 3 rows. Another brother took offence to me reading in the back row. Apparently that area is reserved for sisters. Put up a sign!! (Submitted on November 24, 2012)
Alsabeel Masjid Noor Al-Islam: ★★★ basement masjid. Looked pretty decent. Apparently they are moving to a new location soon. Unfortunately they did not update their website and we missed fridays prayer! Located in a dodgy part of the city, lots of vagrants and drug dealers loitering - hey this is the Tenderloin bit of SFO so expected :( (Submitted on November 24, 2012)
Islamic Information Center: ★★★★ Nice masjid and atmosphere, read Jummah here, khateeb was very knowledgeable and gave a good khutbah. Masjid is well sized (not massive but serves its purpose)lots of parking and attentive parking attendants to keep traffic flowing. (Submitted on November 24, 2012)
MIT Musallah: ★★★ performed our Eid Jummah salaah here. Its ok, i guess it serves more a student crowd and being on campus its not very mosque-like. I think their regular khateeb was away as a student gave a lecture which was not quite inspiring (Submitted on November 24, 2012)
King Fahd Mosque: ★★★★★ fantastic masjid. Signature saudi glitz and glamour - it was a gift from King Fahd afterall :) Marble stairs, eastern mosaic, clean and soft carpets, very big and spacious. Good to attend a masjid that looks like a traditional masjid as opposed to a basement or 1st floor room thats been converted. One issue: As we entered, we wanted to park in the basement. Brother at the entrance says "to park there you need to 'donate' $10' - i dont mind donating to a masjid but forcing it on someone before they can park is not cool. Anyway i only had 1 $50 bill on me, asked if he could break it and keep $10, give me $40 back. he didnt have change and after a minute of whispering to his security guy - let us through.
