| Islamic Center of the Capital District: ★★★★★ We've lived in the Albany area for the past year--and have come to love the community at ICCD. They have a wonderful new Muslim Community Center where Jummah, Eid, and other services are held. The women's bathroom is large--with a wonderful area for wudu. They even have a room where women can breastfeed. The Weekend school is top notch--meeting Friday nights and Sundays. Eid prayers and Jummah prayers are both well attended. There is a particular African brother who works as a chaplain in the prison system who gives wonderful khutbahs. Highly recommend this masjid and community. (Submitted on June 20, 2011) |
| Muslim Youth Center: ★★★★ First off, there is a major children's area at the Youth Center. They have this giant indoor climbing thing (think MacDonald's playground). There is also a nice playground (NYC run) right next to the youth center. The 2nd floor has a pretty nice gym (better than expected), and they have a very balanced schedule of sister's and brother's hours. Iftar is held nightly during Ramadan. Karate classes are offered for boys and girls. Center also has daycare for kids who are at least 3 and potty trained. Biggest negative for me is that it's Arabic/Egyptian focused... as a non-Arabic speaking person (although married to an Egyptian), I feel like a 2nd class center. Wish they had a diaper-changing area and better Sister's restroom. Only one sink for all of the Sisters to make wudu with. Yikes! No area for Sisters who are nursing either. | Islamic Center of Northeast Florida: ★★★★★ A really nice Muslim community. Multifaith, multicultural. Mainly Sunni, but some Shi'a do attend. Women are on the Board and have been for many years. Many are very active and their input is definitely welcome! Great Sunday School program for kids. Monthly potluck iftars are nice. Nice, clean restrooms for both Sisters and Brothers. School on site (mainly elementary) with some very qualified teachers. Parking at the masjid is purchased/reserved for Friday prayers. There is additional free parking across the street at the Christian church. (They let the Muslims park there. :)) (Submitted on January 28, 2006) |
| Islamic Cultural Center of New York: ★★★★★ I really liked this masjid when I visited it. It felt like a mosque... it felt like Allah(swt) was there... hard to explain, but not all masjids give me that feeling. I liked the little alcoves for the Sisters--I didn't feel like a second class citizen... instead I felt like I had my own little suite where I could focus on Allah(swt). I only wished that I lived closer so that I could go more frequently. The khutbah I heard was good...and the Imam's English was quite good as well. (Submitted on January 28, 2006) |
| Islamic Center of Bay Ridge: ★★★★ My husband says that the Sheykh here in excellent. I think I miss out on a lot not understanding Arabic, even though translation is available. (You need to ask for the little devices.) It is a very popular masjid--and as such, very crowded. The Sister's area is a basement room with a bathroom attached... nice, but too crowded. Looks like there was a video-feed of the khutbah at one time, but that is no longer offered... just audio. Think that they would benefit from a larger space. (Submitted on January 28, 2006) |
| La Grande Mosquee de Paris: ★★★★★ If you are a Muslim visiting Paris, this is a must see. Such a beautiful complex.. with gorgeous gardens. The wudu area for Sisters is beautiful and well-kept. Very, nice helpful people--although I got strange stares because I was wearing hijab. Also visit the Museum of the Arab World in Paris... gorgeous old Qur'ans on display.
