Muslim Community Center of Union County: ★★★★ This is the only masjid in the area where you'll find a 20 rakat taraweeh during Ramadan. Check their website for the Iqama timings. Please do not leave any valuables visible in your car. (Submitted on August 1, 2011)
Islamic Center of Union County: ★★★★ I prayed Isha here regularly for several months in 2011 and it's a very nice masjid. The wudu area is limited, it's best to do wudu before you arrive. They'll be praying 8 rakat for taraweeh during Ramadan. Check their website (it's actually icucnj.com) for the prayer calendar. (Submitted on August 1, 2011)
Muslim Society of Jersey Shore: ★★★★ My wife and I spotted this masjid on Lakewood Rd (Route 9) and stopped here to pray Dhuhr on Saturday, May 7 2011. This was around 4pm, less than an hour before Asr, and we were happy to find a few people around the masjid. We went in and were able to pray, the bathrooms were fairly clean, and there was plenty of space. The only negative is that when we left, the doors were locked behind us and the masjid was empty, so if you're stopping here to pray off-hours you might find the doors locked - you can try the other masjid listed in Toms River instead. Otherwise it was a nice masjid, and just a few minutes off the Parkway. (Submitted on May 8, 2011)
Bedminster Musala: ★★★★ Not sure how long the musallah has been around but I've been there regularly since mid 2010 - as of January 27, 2011 it's still going strong. The door has always been unlocked during the daytime. They pray 'Asr at the later Hanafi time which is nice. Dhuhr jammat has been moved to 12:30 for the winter, I'm not sure when it's going back to 1:30 -- I wish there was a website with at least the prayer times. Btw, this musallah is behind 'Equity Packaging', just look for their green sign and turn into that lot. Park towards the back of the parking lot and walk up the ramp that's facing the back of the building. There's no Jummah here, the local community does Jummah at the Bernards Township Community Center 289 South Maple Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, starting at 1:15pm (as of Jan 28, 2011). I'm about to add this location to Salatomatic. UPDATE: Dhuhr has been moved to 1:15pm (iqama) for the rest of the year! Please take your lunch around that time and join us for salat! Dar-ul-Islah: ★★★★ Very nice masjid, if you put /mobile at the end of the website you can see the prayer times formatted for iPhone/Android. 'Asr jamaat is at the later Hanafi time. The masjid has been here since the late 1970's, 5 prayers a day and Jummah (1pm-1:40) each week. While construction is going on the women's entrance is closed and sisters will have to enter via the side door - the door is labeled. There's a secondary parking lot about half a block down if the small masjid lot is full. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Islamic Society of Basking Ridge: ★★★★ I've been coming here since January 2008 and as of January 28, 2011 Jummah has been held every single week. There are a lot of major companies with offices in this area so it's always packed with professionals. There's no barrier between the men and women - the sisters usually take the last two or three rows in the back. There is a bathroom but it can only be occupied by one person at a time, please try to do wudu before you get there. The bathroom is not really accessible to the sisters. Islamic Center of Passaic County: ★★★★ This is the largest Sunni masjids in the area and one of the most active communities in New Jersey (maybe the east coast). Note that 'Asr is prayed at the earlier Shaafi'i time. The community is predominantly Arab, majority Palestinian - lectures and khutbas are usually delivered in Arabic but translations are usually provided -- for Jummah via wireless headsets which are free to borrow. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Omar Mosque: ★★★★ With its renovations completed in 2010 this is one of the most beautiful masjids in the area, with a large building able to house hundreds. It has been active for many years and is still active as of January 2011. While it is in a Turkish area this is a predominantly Arab community. There is only street parking - expect to park many blocks away if you're late for Jummah, even the daily prayers fill up all the nearby street parking. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Nida-ul-Islam Center: ★★★★ A very nice masjid, it's been here for a few years and still very active as of January 2011. There is a parking lot, bathrooms are fine. I came here with my wife a few months back for Isha and the men prayed in the main hall (downstairs) while she prayed in the kitchen, with a wall dividing the two spaces. It sounded strange to me but there are prayer rugs in there and it's a perfectly fine area to pray. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Masjid Faizan-e-Madina: ★★★★ This is a small masjid taking up two office suites. My wife and I stopped here on Jan 8th 2011 for 'Asr, which they pray at the later Hanafi time. There are two single-occupancy bathrooms, one for the men another for the women. There was plenty of parking (we went on a Sunday). (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Islamic Society of Baltimore: ★★★★ Very large masjid with a very active community, plenty of parking and facilities. Still active as of January 2011. I'm pretty sure 'Asr is prayed based on the earlier Shafi'i time, check their website for the current time. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
King Fahd Mosque: ★★★★ My wife and I came for Jummah here on Nov 26, 2010 and Dec 3rd, 2010. Beautiful building, plenty of parking their underground parking deck, lots of wudu and bathroom space. I think the women were upstairs while the men are in the main hall. There are a few zabihah restaurants within a short drive if you're in the area. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
Islamic Society of Delaware: ★★★★ Lovely masjid, very clean bathrooms (both men and women). My wife and I stop here every time when traveling between NY/NJ and MD/DC - it's almost perfectly in the middle of our route, maybe 5-6 minute away from Route 95. Still active as of January 2011. They pray at the earlier Shafi'i 'Asr time, check their website for the current times. Just a tip: ignore your GPS and take exit 3B from the south or 3 from the north, both to 273 West. Follow your GPS from there. Take the same road back to 95, don’t waste your time traveling on local roads - the University of Delaware is right there you might stuck in traffic. Islamic Center of Lake Hiawatha: ★★★ My wife and I prayed Maghrib here on Aug 11, 2010 -- we got there just as the brothers were heading out and about to lock the door. I've been told that you can go to Shahi Kabab (right next door) and get the key if you go there outside of the normal prayers. It's true, there's just one small bathroom. No parking lot but there's always plenty of street parking. (Submitted on January 28, 2011)
