| Al-Farooq Masjid: ★ The building is beautiful and spacious. The parking is inadequate, especially for the Friday I attended during Ramadan. :) The attendees were very multicultural, which was encouraging. The service however was in Arabic. I am an American female convert. I couldn't understand much at all, just the occasional word. Also, no men gave me salaams. I can count on 1 hand the women who did. Few of the women in the women's area smiled. One woman converted and hardly anyone said anything to her. I was shocked!
Anyway, being a woman, I can only really report on the women's area of this mosque. It was spacious, but we had to watch on 2 TVs hanging up fairly high. Not so good for those with neck problems! For women with children, the playroom has no TV, no speaker system, no way of hearing or knowing what is being said.
Later, when talking with someone on the board of this mosque, he did openly say that they go with the most conservative views so as to offend no one. For me, that says it all. (Submitted on August 19, 2010) |
| American Islamic Fellowship: ★★★★ This is not a masjid (yet). Insha'Allah, one day it may grow to meet that milestone! Right now, it is a group that meets two or more times a month. The meetings are often intense and very honest. Just remember that there is no progress without honesty! And surely we could all use a little more honesty and understanding in life! I am giving it 4 stars simply because the intensity that arises from such a diverse and lovely group can sometimes cause discomfort, not unlike all worthy struggles in life! | Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam: ★★★★★ This is a loving and embracing masjid that recognizes the needs of new converts! Allahu Akbar! I travel many miles to attend when I can. Those new to Islam can find a lot of help and encouragement here! Everyone is friendly and everyone prays in the same room. Wonderful, Masha'Allah! There are lovely renovations, great Imams, a nursing room for mothers and babies, and the list goes on! I can't recommend this masjid enough! (Submitted on July 27, 2010) |
