| Mustafa Center Mosque: ★★★★★ It should be noted that the Mustafa Center DOES have its own parking lot and has additional parking behind the masjid. It also sits adjacent to a shopping plaza. In short, you never have to worry about parking. The Mustafa Center itself is a beautiful building. It stands out amongst the commercial buildings and residences. It is a good representation of Islam; architecturally it projects a message of both peace and strength. The community at the Mustafa Center is mostly Afghani but even within the past year it has begun to attract a wider variety of Muslims including Arabs, Malaysians, Indonesians and American converts. The atmosphere is very, very laid back and people will talk with you here. The Mustafa Center is not as busy as the ADAMS Center or Dar Al Hijra but it makes up for this with an active, friendly congregation and a variety of programs for both children and adults. In fact, unlike many area masjids, you can always expect to find kids here - making salaat, reading, quietly playing while parents make salaat, etc. Look for the Mustafa Center to become more and more popular as it advocates a moderate worldview, avoids regional, religious-politics and Wahhabi rhetoric, engages with the local community in an easy fashion - all while meeting the spiritual and ideological needs of its congregation. | Dar-us-Salaam: ★★★★★ Dar-us-Salaam is known as a very conservative masjid and the worshipers are also known to be very conservative. What does all this mean? I am not sure but they won't advertise any events that have Hamza Yusuf. The congregation is very friendly however, and Muslims here will talk with you, trade viewpoints and they are extremely active in the community constantly hosting fundraisers, outreach events, supporting women's shelters, raising money for the homeless and the hungry and exemplifying what it means to be Muslim. | ADAMS Center: ★★★★★ Salaam. I have visted this masjd a few times and it is, arguabley, the most active Islamic center in the metro DC area. The facility itself is huge and they regularly feature nationally recognized speakers like Hamza Yusuf. It is true that the place can get rowdy with kids running everywhere and men and women mixing in the halls, but I have never seen anything inappropriate; women wear hijab, children were respectful (if excited) and the administration and staff seemed to be firendly. One of the best attributes of the ADAMS center is that it IS family friendly. Other masjids (not to be named) frown on bringing kids to prayer (especially jummah). Single moms, nannies, dads doing daycare can all show up with kids to make salaat. I p[ersonally feel this is in keeping with the true spirit of Islam. I cannot attest to having witnessed the problems that others have witnessed - m y only sugegstion would be that during big events better crowd control and volunteer coordination is needed. If I had to sum up this masjid I would use one word COMMUNITY. Every cross-section of American ethnicity is represented and the variety of opinions (within the Sunni spectrum) I believe actually add to the vibrancy of the place.
