| ADAMS Center: ★ It is true that a segment of this community is breaking off. The unfortunate problem is that within the past year the leadership has become increasingly hostile to community feedback. They hired a new deputy director to enforce more power. This new deputy director has upset many in the community by his behavior so some people have decided to break off and start their own masjid in nearby Herndon. I am very sad at these developments because this once used to be a very professionally run orgranization. The deputy director came and fired an excellent staff (these were very hard working people who the whole community appreciated) and implanted his own people so as to exert more "authority". Another issue which has crept up over recent years is the deterioration of the teenagers. Many teenagers here behave very badly because there is lack of discipline both on the part of the parents and the masjid. This has led to a very bad atmoshphere. They shout, curse, fight, wear very innapropriate clothing and do other innapropriate things and nothing is being done about it! One time I actually saw a boy and girl coming out of a bathroom holding hands together! It has gotten so bad that some parents no longer bring their teenage kids to this masjid because of the bad habits they have picked up due to negative influence! Aastugfirullah! I have been a member of this community for so long and it is really sad to see how bad things have become. Please pray for us! (Submitted on March 7, 2009) |
