SUNNI Predominantly chachi mob rule overtook in 1980 the two houses that were purchased on St. Stephens road, West Bowling for prayer and teaching reasons. These were sold in 1983 and the Newton street site was purchased which was formerly a combined dentist and doctors surgery. Once we moved to the new site we were constituted and were named the West Bowling Islamic Society. Later the next door house which was an industrial unit was bought and converted to the premises which are now the elderly day care centre. The West Bowling Islaminc Society is run by a committee and a management committee, which consists of a president, a secretary and a treasurer. Also a vice-president, vice-secretary and a vice-treasurer. There are roughly 20-24 members, and they are all volunteers. The committee is responsible for the maintenance of the mosque building, from cleaning to keeping it in a safe way. We take collections on a Friday at prayer times, and the members of the society also do collections once a month in the community. There is no other income aside from that, and it is the responsibility of the whole committee which runs the mosque. There are two imams (priests) who are employed by the society. They take their duties 7 days a week, and they fix their own times.
