Foundation for Islamic EducationThe masjid is primarily a school, so be sure to call before going to pray, since some of the prayers not during school hours may have few to no people there. Women can pray in the main area. The school is an old mansion on wooded land and is huge and beautiful! (Submitted on 2006-05-14)
Institute of Islamic and Arabic SciencesYour experience here will depend what you're looking for. IIASA has a great and cheap intensive Arabic program, in addition to weekend classes. If you are a woman or don't speak Arabic, it may be difficult for you to communicate and get around here, since most of the activities are in Arabic and put women in a separate room, which frustrated me. All Dulles Area Muslim SocietyADAMS is a wonderful, diverse, and large community that is focused on the youth and developing and engaging young leaders to help direct the masjid. ADAMS is truly involved in the greater community and welcomes everyone. (Submitted on 2006-05-10)
Masjid al-JamiaThe imam has beautiful recitation (taraweeh is excellent), but the masjid is not managed well (the sisters are secluded in a small room full of children and a bad sound system). It is the biggest masjid in the area, has a number of Muslim stores around it, and is expanding its community events and outreach, however. (Submitted on 2006-05-10)
