This modest, two-story prayer hall is centrally located in Mexico City, and its congregation is moderate in religious practice. The executive board of this most popular mosque in Mexico city has a long-term vision that incoroporates local culture, sociological realities, and historic precedent. They welcome Muslims of all stripes to pray at the mosque and attend the religious services.
Directions to the under-funded, yet well-maintained Mexico City Masjid:
Ask the taxi to take you to the large, popular Liverpool Mall (shopping center) on Calz Mariano Escobedo. Once you get to the mall, look for the cross street, Euclides, which has on its corner Cafe Sanborns. Walk 25 meters to the end of Euclides street, and look for building #25.
You can also walk from Polanco metro station as the prayer hall borders the Polanco and Anzures boroughs of Mexico City.
The Muslim prayer hall is walking distance from the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, and makes for a wonderful break during a full-day of touring the city's most prized museum (and park, Bosque de Chapultepec).
The mosque leadership is very welcoming and extremely warm. Women attend and can hear Friday prayers (although they can not see the imam), which is often followed by a welcoming snack.
The prayer room is open 7 days a week for all five of the daily prayers. One can find information about and training in Islam during the hours of 10am until about 2 hours after sunset.
